One last trip!

Post by DougSea »

Doing my best to salvage as much of the 2013 boating season as possible I decided to take a final trip on Sonny to wrap things up.

Currently on the hook in Cold Spring Harbor (NY) and relaxing. Had a beautiful ride over on a nearly glass like Sound.

Took a few pics at the start of the trip this afternoon. Too dark here in the harbor, maybe some more tomorrow.

Glad to hear you have your baby back together and on the water, if only briefly. Hey, it's only four months or so until splash, right?

Thanks Nancy! I am indeed hoping for a very short layup this winter!

Woke to a very different day here. Cloudy, misty. Slight breeze. Still love it!

Doing my best!:) Cloudy but warm. Tied up at the town dock in Port Jefferson, in the shadow of the ferries Grand Republic and P.T. Barnum. Feeling just a bit small!! About to shut down the generator for the night, after a good meal (and watching the Ranger game) at the "Village Way" as recommended by RobS.

Head home tomorrow and a possible short tour around the Norwalk Islands with a friend of mine. And that's likely it. Good end to a challenging season. Already looking forward to 2014!

I took some photos coming in to the harbor but posting from the phone is a pain and they haven't synced to the iPad yet. So watch for those soon.

Passed by that intersection of the rivers several times. Never took the Harlem, always on the Hudson. A sad deal...human error is the pits.

Doug, those were some nice pics...looking forward to seeing some more.

Sorry to say....(not really)85 out today with brilliant sunshine. Lots of of nice vessels cruising by our place today on the ICW. As the DJ said on the radio today, we have the best weather in the country right here in south Florida!!

Hey Chuck - You're thinking of Cold Spring. I was in Cold Spring Harbor. On water difference of almost 100 miles. Cold Spring is on the Eastern shore of the Hudson, Cold Spring Harbor is on the North Shore of Long Island.

So, while I've been by and through the intersection of the Harlem and Hudson rivers many times - not this trip!

For your viewing enjoyment - Some pics from yesterday and today!

For those who are into such things, I went back and pulled some numbers:

Approximately 62 Nautical Miles (actually probably closer to 70 given my less than straight course holding!) This is based on a Google Earth retracing of the trip.

Main engines running for 5.0 hours, burned 63.1 gallons of diesel. (Volvo-Penta EVC Gauge reporting)

Ran the generator for ~12 hours, mainly for heat and hot water, along with Wednesday nights dinner, figure another 5 gallons or less based on specs.

So, $217 in fuel.

No dockage costs (sweet!) and spent $45 in the Village Way restaurant.

Total cost of trip - $262

Feeling of happiness and well being - Priceless!! 8)

Thanks guys, for the kind words. I feel good having held out for the trip after such a messed up season!

I do have a GoPro. Used it once. :( Need a tutorial.

The advantage of the iPhone was having the ability to frame the shot to include the lighthouse.

Eisenglass is for sissys!! Really glad I keep the clear glasses on board. I can take the cold rain smacking me in the face but it sure is hard to see when you have to close your eyes!

And it's cold here today Jay! Time to winterize and get her ready for her winter bed.
