Hot knife to remove the caulk (Defender), "custom" bent screwdrivers to scrape the seam edges, and sandpaper to clean the sides of the grooves.


And of course 4000 miles of blue tape

Guys, recaulking is only a visual fix, the REAL problem is the adhesive UNDER the deck, that should be holding the teak down, is no longer doing it's job.

Fixing what you can see isn't fixing it.

I know when I removed my teak decks I found a lot of problems I wasn't aware of. Fully 1/3 of the deck had water under it, a slimy moldy mess.

Can't prove it, just know what I found.

When I bought mine this spring it already had Durabak applied over the teak. The teak shows through but it doesn't leak. I'm not concerned with looks, we are getting ready to do the Loop next year.

FAst forward 4 years - and maybe you will see this - How is the Durabak doing now?

I believe mine is still in decent shape. I know I have few areas that are due for recaulking
