NMEA question

SO this may be a dumb question - but on my 1983 Lehman - I assume all of my gauges and senders are not NMEA 2000 compliant? I am assuming my gauges/senders/wiring are essentially "analog" and would need some kind of converter to be able to pass the data to a NMEA 2000 receiver (like a MFD) ? I am guessing it would require something like - https://www.nolandeng.com/rs11.php - to be configured and then this device would pass along the NMEA2000 data? Has anyone done anything like this on their boat?

Yes it can be done but it would add up. New transduces for everything... I haven't done it but have been involved in two re-powers on my friends various dive boats. The engines that went in had interfaces with the new engines so it's pretty easy. I had to do a N0138 to N2K transition for his autopilot on one vessel. I would do it on my vessel if I was dropping in a new motor only, but thats me. I did build a new helm panel and had to change the Yanmar temp sensor and oil transducer to be compatible with the new Beede gauges.

It's a certainty that your engines are pure analog. :)

The converter that you found looks like an option, and I found this one as well: https://www.navstore.com/albacombi-anal ... combi.html There's also the EMU from Actisense. They provide a good amount of detail on "Will this work with my engine" : https://www.actisense.com/product/emu-1/

I've looked into this but other things always seem to take precedence! Plus while my engines aren't NMEA 2000 compliant they do run a network, so I would use a different gateway (like the Maretron)
