SideThruster Joystick times out too fast

Post by Dr Luke »

I can use some help troubleshooting. I have a SideThruster joystick controller for the bow thruster on my new to me 32+2. According to an online owners manual it should time out and shut off after nine minutes, however it shuts off in 45-50 seconds. Does anyone have sage advice they can share?

If the unit has a low voltage protection built in it could be that. Verify voltage at the thruster when running and not to compare.

It doesn't cut out when running. It shuts off when waiting for input. Disconcerting when you reach for it only to find its off (again)

Well, came up with a solution, but not what was initially planned: a new 100kg thruster, all new wiring and controls, 8d battery to power it and to enlarge the house bank (in forward space), and a dedicated battery charger. That should solve the problem of spinning the hull in tight spaces with significant wind blowing... when doing that old school single prop way doesn't fly!
Ugh... but, should help with trim too!
