Additional grab handles

Post by kerrye »

We discovered this summer that exiting and entering the cockpit with the complete cover and doors one was awkward due to no easily accessible grab handles. So I added some. They're also useful for entering and exiting the cockpit from the ladder while camping in the boat on the trailer. I used 1/4" stainless all-thread and stainless cap nuts to attach them. 2' of all-thread left about 2" remaining.

Very nice - do they back onto each other? IMHO You cant have enough grab handles.

Yes, back to back. The all thread goes thru both handles with a nut on both ends.

Clamped the two handles together between two boards and then drilled the holes on a drill press so I could be sure they lined up.

My A27FC had similar handles in the edge of the pilot house's aft edge. The 27 had enough meat to mount a single handle there. I used them ALL the time!

The A25 doesn't have the thick pilothouse edge the 27 does but you came up with an excellent solution to add much needed hand holds. Agreed - You can never have too many.

Nice! Will come in handy to hang on to when rocking & rolling 20 degrees to 20 degrees in a choppy beam sea as well.

New wood.JPG
Mazboot has grab handles in the center of the helm roof, on the new wooden trailing edge, and also on the "entry" posts. All have proven their worth recently. Also, trailing edge handles are useful rod holders.

Very nice! I need to add drains for my BC hardtop roof in that location so I may use copper pipe outside and teak on the inside.
