Dutch Albin 25

Post by Desertboater »

This September we rented an Albin like boat in Friesland, Netherlands (Holland) for a week of canal cruising - we kept looking for an Albin as we cruised through wide and narrow canals but only saw one Albin 25 tied up to a dock in De Alde Feanen National Park near Leeuwarden.

This looked like an early displacement hull model as there was no Deluxe emblem visible. The canvas top for the cockpit was fasten with different straps than ours - which makes me wonder which style is original or if a previous owner modified the method of fastening the forward edge of the cabin cover. Ours has 4 straps that are not sewn to the canvas but go around the rod that stiffens the forward edge of the cover. The attachment points to the fiberglass are similar, so it is quite possible our canvas cover has been replaced

Here is a close up of the straps on the Dutch boat.

The boat we chartered was very similar to an Albin 30 - steel hull like almost all boats we saw there. Also very much a flat hull design rather than the deep hulls of the Albin 25 / 27 / 30.

Interesting! One thing we'd like to do someday, though not sure we'll ever get around to it, and certainly not in 2018 with our current PNW plans, would be to rent and actual Albin 25 on the Gota Canal in Sweden.
