Holding tank after composting toilet

Post by jerridsc »

After installing a composting toilet, did you remove the holding tank? Does an A25 still need to have one onboard? If kept onboard, what and how do you use it?

You're asking who? No, we did consider a composting toilet (Air Head, etc) at one point a while back, and ended up keeping the regular marine toilet & replaced the existing 9 gallon holding tank with a 20 gallon one, which necessitated moving the battery banks over to the seat locker on the starboard side. So far we're happy with that solution. Of course relocating batteries led to a complete refurbishment & upgrade of the 12V system, battery cables, new master switch, etc.

If you 'upgraded' to a composting toilet, no need to keep the now useless holding tank - Remove it and add more battery power in it's place for an even bigger 'upgrade'

Second what Beta Don posted. We've been using a Natures Head for a few seasons and like it a lot. The solid waste container goes through a whole season without being emptied (at our lever of use). We have a second liquid waste jug and just switch the first one out when full over a week-long cruise. No need for a holding tank.
