That shot is from our house, not toward it, :)
The lawn is a fairly thin layer over granite, so I
think we're OK.

Ah, Canadian Shield country, pre-Cambrian granite gneiss covered with just enough clay to grow some grass. That's the same geology we have here on the south side of the Thousand Islands :)

Update: both the Ontario brake/clutch specialist companies referred by Noodat on page 1 have told me they can do it. I need to verify with each of them that they can install the material with the grooves that enable the oil to flow properly - they are more familiar with the dry clutch systems.
In the pics below (done so I can send to them in advance) the second piece is good, but the collar can't be removed. My piece is #1, and the collar is embedded in another part. So we can't use #2. Frustrating.

Probably too late to be of use but at the temps that your reverse gear runs, I'll bet you could epoxy or even high temp RTV new lining to the drum. Not like automotive brakes where they get hot on hills.

Interesting approach - but a little risky? The guy at Phoenix says that he will have to manually cut the grooves. I will go with him and hope for the best.
