AWLGRIP/AWLCRAFT and Blue

Post by kowal_53 »

I finally made it to the paint shop after 2 boats. My 31 TE will be getting a new coat of blue. From what I gather most folks opt for the Flag Blue. My painter says 80% of the boats painted get Carinthia Blue, which is one shade lighter, but still quite dark than Flag Blue. He said the Carinthia will look blue in most light, were the Flag Blue can look black is some lighting situations. I suspect it will not matter all that much, given that I am used to whitish haze blue gelcoat. He also highly recommends AWLCRAFT verses AWLGRIP, since it can be easier to touch up if one abuses the paint a bit.

Has anyone seen an ALBIN in Carinthia Blue? But most important is what did you think of it.

Where are you getting your boat painted? I had mine painted in Cambridge Maryland. I cannot recall the color but it was a dark blue.

The boat is at Composite Yacht in Trappe, MD. Quite a few Albin have been painted there.

The boat is Corinthia Blue now. Perhaps not the best picture, but the sun was on this side.

How much was the paint job?
I am considering dark blue as well and thinking $8-9k plus another $2k for 2 coats of bottom paint, then yet another $2k for wetsanding and compounding gel coat from the rub rail and up, total $13k plus another 10% because it is a boat in a boat yard, then add taxes and “environmental fees” because they can and we are North of $15k.
Does that sound about right...?

In 2015 we had our 28 painted Teal using AWLCRAFT at $125 ft and the bottom with 2 coats Pettit Ultima SR-60 (black) at $45 ft including adding the boat name and hailing port for another $125 + plus zincs and some other stuff that came out to a little over $5,000.

I believe the price to paint and rename etc was about $6,000. However there is always more that you do, and that added a bit more. I had the mast remove and repainted, satellite mast removed and roof and rear twin platform skid surface redone. So for paint etc, it came to about $9,000.
