Keels on the 27 vs 28 modified

Post by yanmar »

I've noticed that older models have a full keel and large rudder and newer has a modified keel and smaller rudder . I'm looking to become an owner and was wondering if one had an advantage over the other as I would prefer a full keel being a downeast owner in the past.

Hey Yanmar. The 27 and 28 are VERY different boats. The 27 has a displacement hull and the 28 is a planing hull.I can’t speak to the underwater shape of the 27 but can tell you that all 28’s have the skeg and attached rudder. The rudder shape was modified over the years but the general shape of the hull is consistent.
