New to us

Post by Wfmdfm »

Here we go. Got to finally look at our new to us 2000 28Te since its been delivered. Its been killing me. Delivery was delayed for several days due to a few things on the shipping end in Florida. Arrived the day we were took off for a planned ski vacation. So my daughter had to deal with the transport and acceptance. I hated not being part of that. It is now at Standish Boat Yard in Tiverton RI. They have been great to work with and help us out because we were not going to be there. I will have the yard change out the timing belt and adjust the values. Other than that I have to clean up some hack electronics and install a rod rack in the interior. Then splash. Once in I will be installing some solar flex panels on the roof to keep the batteries charged while at the mooring or on hook.
So question number one. We removed the interior cushion covers. OK to just machine wash and line dry?

Congratulations on the new boat! That would have killed me to leave on day of delivery!

As for laundering, what are the covers made of? If they're filthy or smelly, maybe there's nothing to lose by machine washing. I might be inclined to start by hand-washing in the bathtub in tepid water. The perils of machine washing include shrinking and/or physical damage.

Congratulations on the new boat. The boys at Standish will take good care of you.

I removed the cushion covers from my boat for laundering when I first took delivery and washed them on the delicate cycle in the washing machine and everthing was fine, but get ready for a wrestling match when putting them back on!

Same. Used Woolite with cold water. Look up tips for getting the foam back in. The canvas folks use big plastic garment bags - vacuum the air out to shrink the foam - put back inside the cover and position properly and you should be all set.

Great tip on using and vacuuming a garment bag. Thanks!

I’ve been thinking of renting an upholstery cleaner before resorting to removing the covers and most awful - putting them back on.
