Albin Dinghy Motors

Post by Jkraft »

Hey all, I’ve got a 8’2 mercury rib on my 28 te. I had a merc 4hp 4 stroke on it and it would plane with just me on board. I am 270 lbs.

Due to burning oil I replaced the motor with a brand new 4 hp Yamaha 4 stroke. The new motor won’t even try to bring the boat on plane. Just for kicks I let my buddy take it out and he weighs 100 lb less than me and it wouldn’t try for him either. Does this sound like a prop issue or should I be taking this motor back to the dealer?

Thanks

Had a 2009 Yamaha 4/4 on a Mercury 310 Airfloor.
Just me (220 lbs) in the boat and it would plane @ 11 knots.
With wifey onboard as well, we were at 7/7.5 knots.
I thought it was a great motor, but probably replaced by a newer model, not sure.

You could try a prop with 2 inches less pitch. That should help.
