Bought my 28 with Peninsular last year and like others was skeptical. The boat had been sitting on the hard unused for over a decade. Installed fresh batteries and she fired right up. Have since put 100 hours on it with zero issues. Knowing what I know now, I would prefer a Peninsular over the Cummins or Yanmar. The main reason is cost and simplicity. It is is simple as it gets and there are plenty of parts at reasonable prices. If for some reason I blow the thing to smithereens, I can go get a brand new long block for $8k. You can't beat that. The other things that I see rarely mentioned are: aluminum oil pan and starter mounted at top of motor. You can thank Matt Koenig (RIP) for that one. A true perfectionist.
