28TE engine mounts

Post by Nancy »

We need to replace at least one engine mount, so I'm trying to identify and source them. This looks like an R&D Marine item, probably #800-035 (base 5" O.A., holes 4" O.C., overall height 6", 3/4" stud). http://www.randdmarine.com/enginemres.asp. R&D is apparently a British company with only one U.S. distributor, PYI, Inc. West Marine says they can get this part, and quoted a much lower price than PYI, which makes me eat a lot of words I've uttered about WM.

I'd welcome the board wisdom as to identification and where to buy. :)

If you get stuck - I’m more than happy to have it sent to my workshop and send it out to you. It was only two weeks ago we made some spacers for one of those.

Thanks very much - appreciate the offer! Also good to have confirmation that this is the correct unit.

Would the B series Barry mount be too big a footprint for your engine bed bracket?

I think so. I also think the price tag is pretty big . . . and I suspect we'd have to replace in pairs if not all four instead of possibly just the one R&D unit that we need. In what way are the Barry mounts a better unit?

Heavier built and better isolation - at low rpm the engine basically "floats"... Cummins used R&D's way back but now all B series engines use Barry's. But yes, you have to pay for what you get. There were some reported failures with the R&D's but yours served well for 20+years in your application..

Thanks, Rob. Turns out we need two. They've cleaned up very nicely. We'll take a look at whether the Barrys are feasible.

This appears to be what you have now. If you go back a page there were a couple more 3/4" studs as well.

I was thinking they were 800-035 (rated for more weight). ?

On second thought, the dimensions of 800-020 are a better match to the existing, but need to bump up capacity to 800-021, 800-020, or 800-023.

Engine and transmission weigh about 1200 lbs.

Your thoughts?

The existing ones cleaned up nicely:

Right, the 021-023. So the 021 here should do it:

I would put the two new ones on the fwd end which (in your V-Drive application) is carrying the greater weight/load...

Hmm, makes sense. Interesting that the bad ones came from the stern of the boat/front of the engine.

Of course, maybe I'm interpreting your suggestion backwards.
