Anyone Selling a Vetus Bowthruster Motor?

Post by Nealkaiser »

The motor on my 1999 28 TE is shot. Before I spend the time having it rebuilt I’m wondering if anyone might be selling? Thanks.

Probably low odds of somebody selling their bow thruster motor.
I got a guy in Fort Lauderdale who will rebuild them however.
Maybe even a do-it-yourself project if you can purchase the brushes and the bearings or whatever the problem is..?

Seconded on the hard to find. Mine was from an earlier year I think and a French made motor. Could not find a replacement anywhere, new or used. Mine was totally rusted out but there is a really good motor shop here locally that rebuilt it for less than $200. Let me know if you'd like their info. Couldn't be happier about the results.

You still looking for a motor. Took the old one out of my boat as the bronze prop unit was shot. They don’t sell the old version of the prop coupling so had to replace the whole unit (yeah, wasn’t happy).

Motor runs great. PM me if interested.

Tell me more?
How was the bronze prop unit shot?
Corrosion, damage, stray electricity?
My prop is plastic. 4HP Vetus.
What brand/type is yours and what is the replacement?
Thx

Uh, the underwater housing, also called the tail is bronze: Is that what failed?
If so, I got a problem there as well, my bronze tail is eating zinc anodes and I keep changing them every 4-5 weeks.

Tailpiece was damaged trying to get the Zink off this past winter. Tried to get it fixed but Vetus told me that they don’t fix the old tailpieces anymore. Sad because their old parts catalogue actually listed the parts needed.

Motor I removed was the old 5512. Replaced with the newer bow5512d (same bolt holes in the tube thank god).
