Hydraulic window ram

Post by Yearwood »

Has anyone successfully installed one or two hydraulic window rams on the center window of a 28 foot PH? If so any details of the ram would be appreciated.

Thanks.

They are called linear actuators. I inspected a few Tiara's and they used them for windows, seats, etc. so I had done some researching on them at that time.

There are many suppliers. Here's one source: http://boatactuator.com/

Thanks. Have used these on Sabres and Eastbay, but I was looking for something more modest such as a hydraulic assist ala the hood of a car, I installed a hydraulic assist
on a heavy Silverton hatch and it worked well but frankly I was guessing on the amount of force.

We haven't had any trouble with the existing mechanism, especially after swapping them port and starboard because they were upside down. Could yours just need lubrication or something else simple?

From time to time someone on the fore deck or inside the pilot house puts their hands in the way and if the window braces slip from the notches they could suffer an accident. I simply would like to make the window easier to operate with
a gas assist.

I did this last night. Amazon has some for $15 that worked great, came with mounting brackets and were the right lb rating. Who knows how long they will last but there's not much to these struts, just some seals and compressed nitrogen. Of course you lose the adjust-ability of the bracketed arm from the factory but it is worth the trade-off to me to simply twist the window locks and push. I hated opening the front window with the bracket.

I used the existing bracket in the center window, just drill out the rivet that holds the arm currently and install the ball stud through the bracket.

Open the window fully and decide on placement of the bottom bracket, simply drill and screw the brackets in (careful not to go through headliner below with a long screw.)

It is easy to do leaving one of the existing arms in place.
