Cockpit floor hatches

Post by Larry cessna »

I am noticing my floor hatches on my 1998 TE are sloppy. I see there are 4 screw heads for leveling. It look like there may have been black rubber washers on them. Also it looks like a few have pushed through the hatch cove. Any ideas on going to a bigger screw, rubber washer, small plate on hatch door?????? Your thoughts. Thanks.

Define sloppy - some of these hatches got wet core (like mine) and needed to be rebuilt. Or do you mean they don't line up well for opening & closing?

They rock when you step on one end or the other.

Well that was timely. I noticed the same thing this weekend and agree that it looks like there were rubber pads there at one point. I’m also curious to know

Mine float about a little bit when you step on them - I've stuck some hatch tape down on the top of the lip inside the hatch and this seems to have solved it

Ah I see. Mine rock a bit too. Tree, what kind of tape do you use for this? I was using some foam weatherstripping but it wasn't great.

I’ve used 5mm (3/16”) neoprene hatch tape I’m on the boat tomorrow - I’ll try to remember to take a photo.

Hatch tape will come into contact with the top of the lift out boxes. Stops any rattles and it means I can use thicker tape to adjust anything that’s not level.

Thank you, although she is looking a bit grubby now as she’s been in the water fished most weekends and some weekdays since April.

Somehow my lift-out boxes were lost along the way in my boat's existence. I'm assuming they are custom made so I haven't even tried to replace them.
