Pump identification

Post by Jkraft »

Hi all, on my 02 there is a belt driven Jabsco Pump mounted inboard of my holding tank. I can’t get my eyes on it too easily. It has one hose that comes off of it and goes to a through hull overboard. I can’t tell where the hose going to it is coming from. Could this be part of the shower pump by chance?

That’ll be your mid ship bilge pump. On one end of the hose there will be a tiny little flat pick up that sits under the engine sump. Mine was seized the day I got the boat. I really ought to find time to take it out and put an automatic pump in place of it.

Mine was also frozen. I looked into a rebuild, but opted to just fashion a bracket that held a Rule 2000 GPH with a float switch. Doesn't get quite as low as I'd like, but most of that water drains to the transom on plane, where the pump located there gets it.

Here's a picture of my 28TE engine bilge (engine box model) with the engine removed and the pickup location for the diaphram pump located by the water heater and waste tank. It rarely saw any use as the low spot and flow of bilge water at rest is under the dinette in the cabin. When under power and as mentioned the bilge water flows to the transom where the stern bilge pump evacuates any bilge water.
