Build Cost New 28 TE

Post by Jkraft »

I did a quick search and couldn't turn anything up. Does anyone know what a new 28 TE with all of the options would have been circa 2002? Just curious. It would be even cooler to see a built/ spec sheet. Anyone have one?

I probably have one if I dig a bit into the files.
Previous owner was good at documenting stuff.

That being said, I ran across a brand new 2015 Albin 28TE five years ago, I believe it was listed for about, or around $153,000.
I contacted the broker but he never returned my messages and I ended up buying a new 2016 Glacier Bay 2770 for about the same money.
(Did not fall In love with the GB and sold it 18 months later for $9.5k MORE than I paid, still in shock. )
Started looking for a used Albin 28TE again, and found my current boat September 2017, good boat, good price, all good.
Will look for the Albin brochures and spec sheets and post right here.
Stay tuned.

I've got a sheet on my 2002 & will try to dig it out .. Maxed out on options with Alaskan Bulkhead, generator, deluxe helm chairs, cherry head door, all cabinetry trimmed in cherry including head, windlass, Vetus 55 bow thruster, electric head, transom door. Most of these items were options. List price $172,000. In 2004 .. boat show pricing without Alaskan bulkhead or generator was $165k.

Did a quick search for the brand new Albin 28TE five years ago: The link don’t work but the headline is still on the ‘net:

“ 2015 Albin 28 TE - 28'. 1 / 10. Year, 2015. Length, 28ft. Price, USD $198,000. Type: New. Categories: Power. Location, Stamford, CT, United States. Hull Material. Engine type, Single. Fuel ...”

I seem to remember a bit less money, but perhaps this was the initial listing..

(Albin or somebody tried to start up again, but it did not work: I tried to get the last one, but broker did not respond )

NorthCoast Boats bought the 28 mold and maybe the 31 at the mid to tail end of the last recession after Shamrock had failed with the 28 & 31 TE series.

NorthCoast built a couple of 28's and they sat on them for a long time. Standish had one and the same hull appeared for two consecutive years at the Boston Boat Show before finally selling. These were bad times for boat builders building on spec. NorthCoast finally abandoned the Albin line. Not sure where the molds are now .. probably weathering behind some building.

Standish has moved on now too, representing Eastern and NorthCoast Boats.

We ordered our 28TE from the factory in Portsmouth RI in late 1996. Not highly optioned but with the Cummins 250B was $86k out the door.

We purchased a 2001 in January 2001 with 27 hours on the engine for $108,000. No A/C, Yanmar, reasonable electronics, radar. My recollection is the factory price was around $135,000.

Just been chatting with north coast via Instagram and they still have the molds out back. They’ve just launched a 315HT that screams Albin but it’s designed by Jose DaPonte apparently.

I purchased my 2001 28TE from Standish in 2002.
It was their "demo boat" from the previous year and had about 15 hrs. on the engine....essentially new.
Radar/GPS/Radio/swim platform/wood trim on interior.
$120,000.00

Ken at Standish told me that he sold 25 Albins in 2001.
