Post by efishnsea »

Ok guys Just purchased this boat it has two fuel tanks one foward the engine belly tank and one aft the engine goes side to side. seems to have only one valve to shut off fuel located aft in center hatch. can someone please shed a little light on this for me? It does have two fuel fills and a toggle on the helm fuel level on each tank. tanks have no capacity plates also just Luther

Don’t know for sure, but heard the optional second fuel tank was 60 gallons. (Wish I had that option :D )

The main tank is 132 gallons & as mentioned, the auxiliary is 60 gallons.

I'm not sure how they are plumbed or how the shutoffs are setup, but I would imagine a little belly crawling will lead you to your answer. Please be sure to follow up and share what you discover.

When you do the bilge crawling to understand how the tanks are plumbed do check the underside of that belly tank. Belly tanks are notorious for failing down at the underside due to them sitting in a usual wet location. Tiara had constant issues with their belly tanks way back. And the 28TE can be a wet bilge due to poorly designed deck drains.

Luck is the residue of good design.

I have the auxiliary tank in my Albin and along with the toggle switch at the helm for fuel level, you should also have a transfer pump switch. The engine will only pull from the main tank (132 gallons). Mine has a transfer pump to move the diesel from the 60 gallon forward tank to the main tank for usage. My transfer pump is located just to starboard at the aft end of the forward tank.... it sits on a bulkhead wall. Hope this helps,

In my 1996 28TE, main tank failed in 2014 before I bought it, and aux tank failed on me last year. Removing the aluminum aux tank was a bugger, had to dissect. For my use I don't think I need the extra 60 gallons so I have moved battery trays to port, and I have much better access to engine room. Have not splashed it yet but hoping to lose some starboard list. I have not yet removed aux tank plumbing.
