Albin 31 Helm Seat Winter project

Post by kowal_53 »

I am contemplating the replacement of my current helm seat. I have seen several pictures on this site, but still am not sure if it will work out. Has any one replaced their helm seat on a 31? If so is there any advice, or lessons learned?

Pitou found these Lexington seats, and they might make a good candidate. They might have wood in them, but their cost from iBoat is quite low when compares to some others. ($350 to $400) I need to find out if they an mount on a slide, find a very short pedestal. They come in a short and taller configuration.

I saw the some LLebroc seats on a 28 on the Albin site a while back, these are very nice. I am not sure if a tall one will work quite yet, so I may have to go with a low back. These can mount on slide. The series 1 are $800 to $1000, and the series 2 are twice that. http://pilotchair.com/cat-llebroc-helm-chairs.cfm

The picture below is what I have now. I have a floor panel that swings don for my feet. (Not shown, but you can see a bit of the stop that it would rest on when it is deployed) It is slide mounted, which can be locked down forward/Aft. (Garelick makes the slide) The swivel does not lock on this slide, but it would be nice if it did. I do see that there are some that do from Garelick, and others.
