28TE Yanmar Water Ingestion

Post by catalina_mike »

Has anyone ever heard of injestion with the Yanmar 6lp? My mechanic, who did a good job changing my timing belt, wants to change the dry riser height and redo things. I just wanted my short exhaust hose changed for this season. I have never seen any Yanmar issues and am now concerned.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Not with the yanmar. There was a thread on here with the Cummins that was getting salt water into the turbo via the elbow but was a design flaw in the exhaust I believe. Not enough height. Have you removed the elbow and looked at the turbo? If so, send a pic. Tons of info on this on boatdiesel.

Some of the best available reading on a proper marine exhaust system can be found on the SeaBoard Marine website. Even though they are Cummins dealers the principals and reading cuts across the board to Yanmar, John Deere, FPT, Cat or any other marine diesel engine and exhaust installation.

This link is a good place to start and most likely addresses your mechanics concerns:
