correct prop pitch

Post by Doug »

Our 32+2 CB has a Cummins 370 Turbo. The engine is supposed to have a maximum RPM of 3000. We have had our tachometer and floscan tach calabrated. The maximum rpm we can get is 2850.

Our prop is a 4 blade 22 x 24. I have met a couple of other CB owners that have a 22 x 22 prop.

We do not seem to be getting as good fuel milage as comparable boats.
If I have the prop re-pitched to 22 x 22, should that improve our fuel milage?
Thanks,
Doug

You are overpropped. You are using more fuel to reach rpm, if you unload her she will use less fuel to reach any given rpm. Taking two inches of pitch out seems reasonable..
