Turns of wheel from lock to lock?

Post by Joe »

I have a 1994 Command Bridge/Sportfish, how many turns of the helm does it take to go from lock to lock? Mine takes 6.5 now and that seems excessive. Thanks for the input. Joe

That is going to depend on which steering cylinder is installed. See attached specs
and scroll down to the order guide

6 turns lock to lock sounds like the heavier cylinder and is the one you want. I'd just get used to it and perhaps consider adding a steering knob like the Edson Power Knob. Not cheap but cheaper and easier to install than a steering cylinder

6 1/2 turns is a lot. I had 6 on my ex Mainship 34 and it was a real PITA in close quarters.
Now I have 3 on my Albin 40 and it makes a big difference.
That is with the Capilano helm pump which is adjustable for stroke and 3 turns is as fast as it can go.
Are you sure yours is not adjustable? If the pump has a knob sticking out from the bottom portion it's adjustable.
