35 Command Bridge has no w/s or wipers?

Post by whwells »

Hey All Command Bridge Owners: I am Albin less for the first time in years. Have always liked the roomy interior of the 35 Command. However, how do you handle rain with a single up station & no w/s wipers. Boat would be in the NW and we do get rain and there they do not get dry docked for the winter as most of of the eastern boat do

Kevin: Thank you for the reponse. What do you mean "full oil skins". New to me. Have tried RainX but when it is a serious rain that is not enough.
Other issue is the V Drive. I perfer a straight drive engine/and tranny.
Wondering if a trolliing value works with the V Drive power train?

I will post these concerns - but if you know anything do let me know. May have to hold out for the long term for a 35te Flybridge with upgalley. Have you had your rum yet today?

Thanks for noticing my wise guy tag line Howard  No rum yet .. it's a work day for me, but since it's fall and the leaves are changing, I've transitioned to Old Grand Dad 100 with unpasturized cider from the local apple orchard.

Speaking of wise guys, the previous post about referring to my "Avator" shows the old salt (not me) in his rain gear or in the old days referred to as "oil skins". Rain gear used to be made of canvas cloth and oiled / waxed for water repellancy .. hence "oil skins".

“35 Command Bridge has no w/s or wipers?”, was interrupted as the vessel had no wind screen or wipers on the command bridge.

My Albin has an open helm design from the factory, (subsequently up graded to a T-Top), with a minimal windscreen and no wipers. The foul weather solution is still “oil skins” or equivalent. Still haven’t found a bilge pump to handle the water build up in my shoes… :D

Kevin: Thanks for the history lesson...

Have fun,
Joe

I try not to get caught in the rain but sometimes it can't be helped. I travel each year for a month or more to the Bahamas and have been caught in some terrible squalls and downpours. When this happens I go with ICR (Instrument Cruising Rules). For moderate rain I put down the side glass and leave open the center EZ2CY front panel. Most of the time I close all but the leeward glass. The EZ2CY front panel is well maintained with polish and thus the water beads away quite readily. Not a big deal.

Steve, That's a nice enclosure. Did you remove the plastic windscreen or is it very, very clear?

I have seen the center forward panel replaced with clear plexi that has a wiper motor and arm attached to it. Worked
