Ice Maker installation on 36' Albin Classic

Post by tshipshape »

Has anyone installed a built in ice maker on a 36' Albin? I am not an owner yet but consider this boat as my current #1 choice. Is there room in the salon anywhere? Or maybe on the flybridge in the compartment behind the upper helm station. Any advice would be helpful and appreciated. :D

We have a built-in ice maker on our 36' Albin but didn't install it (it came already installed when we bought the boat last year). It is in the saloon, port side. When you enter the saloon, there is a cabinet to the right that I guess had 3-4 drawers. Two drawers were removed and the cabinet cut to fit an ice maker. I can send you a picture if you need a better visual.

crowra, Thanks for the reply. A photo would be greatly appreciated. Too bad you lost 2 drawers, this is valuable real estate on any boat.

Looks like a very nice, clean install.

And sure, you lost storage...but your drinks will be cold! Sounds like a winner to me! :)

I just ordered a PORTABLE ice maker. There are several models out there. They all are pretty much under $200 and make 20-30lbs per day. You pour water in these, so there is no tank water supply to hook up etc. They are shaped like a bread maker and do no take up much room. They draw about 160 to 200 watts of power. Mine has not arrived yet. I intend for it to ride in the aft head bath tub. We are going on a two week cruise soon and I'll let everyone know if this was a wise purchase..
IT IDN'T ARRIVE IN TIME FOR OUR 17 NIGHT TRIP. But it is working great in port. I got the KOLDFRONT model kim210w. Using brita pitcher to filter the tank water or tap water at the dock.. OK so far..
