28TE generator installation

Post by sailingzeus »

I am in the process of installing a generator and I would like some input from those knowledgeable ones regarding the exhaust through hull. Do I have to install one with a flap or any straight fitting will do?
Any input will be appreciated.

Thank you

mine does not have a flap, just a vetus waterlock. I would say the exhaust is about 3-4" above stationary waterline, but ill see if I cant find a picture

Where are you exhausting it? If through the transom you should certainly consider a flapper. It prevents water from being pushed back through the exhaust and flooding the generator. Following seas, backing down hard, or a stern on sea from a storm can all be a threat.

That said, as Jeremy notes, your muffler may give you protection.

I have a small flapper on mine. Cheap insurance.

Finnaly got around to finding a pic. You can just see it in the point of the vee made by the two lines going forward from the stern
