11th Annual NE Rendezvous-Crocker's Boatyard - July 7 - 9th

Post by dmorlo52 »

11th Annual Northeast Rendezvous-Crocker"s Boatyard, New London, CT during 2017 SAILFEST.

I have talked to Crocker's, my homeport, and told them to expect about 10 boats for the Sailfest weekend. They are giving the AOG preferred rates and attached is the flyer that can be used to reserve a slip. For those of you that are not familiar with Sailfest it is a huge event where Bank street is closed and full of street vendors and there are other restaurants and bars. There is some shopping for those that do that sort of thing. Fireworks on Saturday night are sponsored by the casino and they are fantastic and with your slip you will have a front row seat.

It is a short walk to Bank street activities and a short taxi to Defender Marine or to the Nautilus Museum for a tour of the old nuclear sub. I can also arrange rides to Defender for anyone who would like to go as it is only a few miles from Crocker's.

I will post more later and you can always go online for Sailfest 2017 for more info.

The Nautilus museum would definately be a worthwhile stop. We were there with our A25 in June, 2015, having motored over from Norwest Marina in Pawcatuck & up the Thames to New London. Then later drove over to the museum by car from Weekapaug to tour the sub.

You think accommodations are tight on a small boat, try this:

Not exactly a Princess cruise.

Have fun guys, wish we could be there. Actually we're going back to Rhode Island again later this year by car, but not until September & not bringing the boat with us like last time.

Kathy and I met up with two of her sisters across the River at Paul's Pasta today and then drove by Crocker's to get into the summer spirit! Gates were locked so we couldn't find Wine Down but we waved just in case she saw us. :)

Then off to the big annual sale at Defender. May have spent a few $$...

Looking forward to the rendezvous!!

Hello NE AOG members! Thanks for the invite, this will be our first rendezvous and looking forward to meeting other owners in the area. We just ordered our new caps today and heading to our 93 sportfisher 32 to get her ready for launch in a few weeks. We purchased the vessel last year from captain chris and dianne in guilford CT. Looking forward to the trip back down from portmouth NH and celebrating Sailfest.

Sonny plans to be there! Looking forward to seeing friends old and new!

And Kat the mystery wife should be there!! (I know at least a few of you have actually met her!!)

For those in the NE area who are thinking about coming - AOG isn't the biggest group out there - but we sure have the nicest people! Come if you can! And if you can't make it by boat? Come anyway! There are many of us who have driven to a rendezvous when the boat gods prevented the boat from going!!

Hello to all our AOG friends! We have just returned from FL and are looking forward to summer in New England and the New London AOG Rendezvous. So far there are 4 boats committed. It would be great to hear soon from all who plan to attend, whether by land (car, train or bus) or by sea (boat or ferry). Caution: if by sea, please plan to arrive prior to Saturday afternoon when the river fills up with boats jockeying for position for the fireworks display and the marine patrol closes access to the river temporarily for the tall ships to enter and then again for the fireworks. Call Shaw's Cove RR swing bridge on channel 13 for openings. If by land, there is a Holiday Inn nearby in New London and other lodging in the area as well. We will arrange parking passes at Crocker's Boatyard for cars if required but again, access and parking is restricted later in the day. Check out sailfest.org for information on vendors and activities. More information to follow.....

Sorry you can't make it Max, we will all miss you this year. Can you give me some pointers on the raffle. Is it to raise money for the website costs? Where do the prizes come from? We are willing to kick in for gifts as we have no cost for traveling this year any ideas? If you find yourself coming this way during the summer give us a shout. We will be around but I do have to travel some for work.

My address is 6 Mill Lane, Waterford CT 06385 if you can send the tickets.

Dave & Annette, the Tenacious crew will be out in Milwaukee at my daughter's national baton competition so we will not be attending. If we were here' we'd be there. Hopefully we hook up later this season. Just a suggestion - keep a running roster of the registered boats active in this thread. And, of course, be sure to have someone on "night watch" for when Doug comes pulling in!
