*****PRESS RELEASE*****

The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) held their annual fall meeting in Annapolis at the Loews Annapolis Hotel. MSSA was in attendance for several of the species management boards.

Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at 4:00 p.m. the Striped Bass Management Board conducted their semi-annual meeting. On the agenda was Maryland’s striped bass trophy fishery. Thanks must go to Howard King, Fisheries Director of the Department of Natural Resources, for spearheading our 2008 proposed striped bass trophy season.

The motion made by Howard King was that “Maryland would start their spring fishery on April 19, 2008 and continue through May 13th.

May 14th and 15th will have a no possession of striped bass during the transition stage whereby on May 16th the possession limit will be two fish at an eighteen inch minimum with only one being greater than 28 inches”.

Maryland will no longer be fishing under a cap during our spring fishery. We will be able to fish and harvest stripers like all of the other coastal states.
