31TE draft

Post by furball »

Just curious if anyone with a 31 has measured their draft. Info sheet says 3’10”. Mine measures more like 4’6” - 4’8”.
Maybe I need to put 250’ of chain back in the bow. 😳

Thanks,
John

3'10" sounds like a twin. That's pretty close to our 35. The single would have more draft.

The twins are shown as 3’3” and single 3’10’” on the original literature but I guess that’s dry. I was just a bit surprised to be almost 12” deeper.

That doesn't seem like enough of a difference (7" in the specs) to me, especially when you add the additional keel depth and likely a bigger prop. But I don't have any pics of a 31TE single on the hard to comment reliably. I would agree that being a foot deeper than the already deeper spec seems a bit much.

I found this post from 2017 and kowal_53 is discussing a 4' draft.

How did you measure yours?

Furball,
I just measured my 31TE single 420 Yanmar ( sitting in the driveway) and it’s between 4’1” and 4’ 2” .

Just to clarify, the above measurement was to the water line, I measured 3’ 10” from bottom of Skechers shoe to corner of the chine.

I measured from the ground (gravel) to about where I believe the water line really is. I have 2”-3” inches of bottom paint above the water line. The rudder is about 2” off the ground. Certainly not exact. After checking again this weekend, I think about 4’4” is close so 4-1/2 it is. I have a photo I would post but I cant re-size it to upload. If i figure out how to do that on an iPad I will post it.

I think that you are pretty close. I've measured my single skeg at 52 to 53 inches to the waterline. Going by the boat on the hard tomorrow and will try to get a picture.

I'm thinking my 31 the twin is a bit more myself. It is now on a lift and will have to measure.
The Chief is a great boat. Clean as a whistle. i was looking at it in Beach haven from 2016 and noticed it
was gone last year. I ended up buying a twin 31 TE. Good luck with her. I'm curious how much you paid for her.

I found a drawing I made in 2015. I measured 55 inches when the boat was on the hard, or I should say gravel. This was not an easy measurement to make, and could be off one way or the other. I suppose I would have to get the level and square out to really get an accurate measurement. My depth finder is 41 1/2 inches to the bottom.
