WTB - Albin 28 TE or 30 FC or 31 TE idk

Post by allante »

Just recently started a search for an Albin 28TE. orrr (30 FC or 31 TE). IDK
Im not stuck on an engine brand.
More concerned about hours and maintenance and overall engine condition.
I actually like the engine box but not opposed to FD.
Dont want a project but I expect to do some work and/or upgrades. Obviously standard features included.
Im 25 miles north of Boston and although local(New England) would be great I'm ok with travel and shipping.
My searches are topped at $50k. But I really want to spend less than $40k.
I know I know -- good luck!!
I plan on looking at some currently on the market for $39k. Im sure they can be had for less.
I am a cash buyer. I would rather buy for less and upgrade over time to our liking. (that would include engine replacement if the price was right)
Thanx for looking!!!

Good idea buying a cheap boat, then trying to fix it later. NOT.

In my humble opinion it is better, in the long and in the short run, to buy a boat that has been cared for and maintained by a caring owner, than to go for a cheap/abused boat from a moron.
Especially if money is a concern, buying cheap may be expensive later.
(I learned that early on: Bought a cheap 44’ boat while I was in my 20s, never owned a boat before. Boy did I learn fast: Should have put the same money into a well cared for 33’ boat)
Since then I owned numerous boats and when I went looking for an Albin 28TE I turned down 2 boats after survey and sea trial ($$$) but the third was the charm, found a well maintained and well cared for A-28TE and now happy as a clam I rejected the previous boats.
Is this your first boat....?

I know one of those boats from personal experience. (PM for details)
The one in Maryland seems like a good deal,

Mine is listed art $85K. 2005 model in very good shape. only 520 hours on engine. Fits your description except for price. In the State of Michigan...if you want a cheaper boat with the risk of major repair you can find those....if you want more info on this....mjohnh@aol.com

There seem to be a lot of these boats for sale! Is that good?
Considering that that there were just somewhere over 1,000 of these hulls produced with only 16 on Yachtworld, 10 on Boat Trader with a lot of the offerings being duplicates and a few others scattered about, the market is pretty tight right now. I remember back in 2010 - to 2014 that at any given time there were at least 100 28 TE's on the market. That was most likely a sign of that recession.

Slim pickings out there right now.

I bought a 2004 30FC in the summer of 2017. The 30FC was low 70's and up during this time frame. Don't think you'll find one in the 50K and under range. If you can squeeze out another 15K you may be able to land one.
