Soundown tape

Post by Nancy »

I need to re-fasten some pieces of Soundown. Googled the tape, and it seems to only come in 125' rolls. I only need about 10'. Is there other tape that will work?

Shaking the cobwebs of time from my brain .. Defender had Soundown 2" Mylar "Scrim" tape at the time I ordered years ago, but looking today it appears that they are offering the plain polyester foil in 2 inch, not the Scrim tape. I'd be sure to get the Scrim Tape.

Size wise, I would have preferred something wider as a 1 inch overlap was not enough in some instances if I was repairing a taped seam as I ended up running 3 strips in some areas in order to help the repair areas pull together and hold. I do see on the Soundown website that the Seam Scrim Tape is available in 2, 3 and 6 inch widths. I think that the 3 inch would have been ideal.

Soundown is local to me and they do sell direct. I'd give them a call if you can't locate what you might want.

Took your advice, Kevin, and called Soundown. Matthew was very helpful and is going to send me a small quantity of pins and tape. Project creep, of course...the falling insulation really needs to be fastened mechanically, which will require epoxying in the fasteners.

Very glad that Soundown was able to help you out directly. It seems that there is always .. just one more thing. Good for you squaring these odds and ends away while you have the opportunity.

I've known of Soundown to go so far as to help out a few locals looking for smaller pieces vs. full sheets of sound board by telling them that they were doing custom cut jobs for varying customers and if the customer could wait a week or so and they would have some free cutoffs available for pickup. They seem to be a very real class act.

Yes, they're going to send me some short rolls of tape and just the handful of fasteners that we need. Great customer service.
