Anyone know this boat?

Post by DesertAlbin736 »

We did not make our usual "DA" run up to San Juans, WA & Gulf Islands, BC this year, but long time sailing club friends from down here in AZ did take their O'Day 272 sailboat up to launch from Bellingham & got as least as far as Maple Bay, Wallace Island, Port Browning & Montague Harbour. They said Maple Bay was "lousy with Albins", spotting three, one of which was covered in white tarp and more or less derelict, the same boat we'd seen & photographed docked in the same place covered with the same tarp way back in 2014. Another was the Canadian boat Manna Kai that we'd seen leaving Roscoe Bay in Desolation Sound in 2018. The third Albin 25 was one named "Sweedie Pie" that our friends docked next to & struck up a conversation with the owners. The owners of Sweedie Pie were Shannon & Angie (no mention of last names), relatively new owners that had acquired Sweedie Pie about two years ago. It's been four years since we've been up there & attended a BC Albineer Ladysmith rendezvous in 2019. However these folks said they'd heard of our "La Dolce Vita" via this site, or perhaps from my YouTube channel. It appears to be a U.S. boat, with stars & stripes flown from the stern & Canadian courtesy flag flown on the hard top over the wheel house.

Shannon & Angie if you're out there these are the folks you met & spoke to, Mark (big tall guy wearing white hat at right background) & Emily (seated at head of table in black & white striped top) with us (left & right foreground) at Hummingbird Inn Pub on Galiano Island, BC in 2019.

Duh! Senior brain lock moment! I had comepletely forgotten about that! Small world that Shannon & Angie would end up in Maple Bay as transient guest dock neighbors next to an Arizona sailing couple we've known for 20 years through our local Lake Pleasant Sailing Club.

Alex, speaking of Bellingham, those AZ sailors got back to Bellingham on Sunday and are having their boat hauled & mast unstepped today getting ready for their road trip home. The skipper is a retired anesthesiogist & they have a 2nd home near Durango, CO & will be staying there for a a few weeks before returning to Phoenix.
