Albin 34 cruiser (closing soon)

Post by agbuckley »

Hello all!

With any luck, next weekend I will be closing on a 1986 Albin 34 cruiser ("BOBCAT") currently in Little Rock, and plan on bringing her back to Cape Cod over the winter and early spring.

Wanting to do the entire Great Loop, this at least gets me halfway there. Would love to do the northern half sometime, but we also run the new harbor launch service in Chatham, and that would be a real trick bouncing between the Erie Canal and the Oyster River every other day in July. Someday, though.

What I a very curious about is WHERE this boat was built. I have asked around and the prevailing wisdom is in Taiwan and maybe outfitted in Portsmouth, RI. If any part of this boat was in the latter area, I would really like to know.

Because the other thing I do is make documentaries for public media (including Rhode Island), and would love to make a film about bringing her home. Home would be easier if the Ocean State and not the South China Sea.

Your thoughts appreciated and thanks for having me here!

Welcome aboard and congratulations! Sounds like a great adventure for this winter! I'd never realized that Little Rock could be a side trip on the Great Loop.

I did a quick google search on "where was albin 34 built", and it took me to a thread on this forum which didn't answer the question, and also listed several threads on trawlerforum. Hopefully someone else will be able to help.

Hello AG Buckley,

Welcome aboard with your new (to you) A 34. My husband and I have owned an A 34 (Hull# 3) 1986 with the Cummins 210 Turbo for the last 15 years. We've spent the last 10 years here on Cape Cod, living in Falmouth with Paumanok moored at Kingman Marine in the summer and on the Hard at the Sandwich Marina in the winter (we can do all of our own work there). We cruise primarily from southern ME to BI ansd all points in between. The A 34s were built in Wallingford CT, they were the only models built there durning the 4 years of production. There were several models built, we have a full flybridge and soft enclosure around the saloon. We live aboard for weeks at a time and have customized many features. I believe there is more information available in this forum under the A 34 thread. Please let me know if you have any more questions. Good luck with the sale and we hope tosee you on the water.
