Yanmar Injectors out!

Post by REBMystic »

This past weekend I finally worked up the courage to dig into my diesels and pull the injectors for testing and refurb. These are my first diesels, so I am a bit intimidated and don't know what I don't know. The information within this forum, the maintenance and parts manual and boatdiesel.com have been helpful. I am sending them off to https://www.injector.com/ based on recommendation from my marina mechanics. They are in CT. I videoed a bit of it and plan to put that together and post at some point.

Engines: 2001 & 2002 Yanmar 6LP-STE About 1600 hrs. (Not sure if they have been looked at before, but I suspect they have)

Well mine are also out and removing the injector seals was a nightmare.

Sadly for me though, the injector seats aren’t in the best of condition since they’re only aluminium in a cast iron block and the seals are silver plated copper washers. I’ve just spent the thick end of 5 hours tearing everything off ready to take the head off tomorrow for repair. Hopefully, the aluminium injector guides and seats can be repaired, the specialist says they can do it. Otherwise, I’m looking for a new head !

Oof. Saw some refurbished ones on eBay the other day. Like $325 each!

Ohh noo!! Good luck my friend. I will be cleaning the injector seats / pockets in the coming weeks. I've watch videos on re-surfacing the injector seats & hope I don't need to deal with that.
