Isuzu 6bd1 fuel curve

I am a new owner of a 1987 Albin 27 Sport cruiser with a naturally aspirated Isuzu 6BD1 engine.

Does anyone have a fuel curve for this engine, showing fuel burn at various rpms?

Also, looking for information on the stated WOT for the engine. I am getting 3200 rpm at WOT (14 knots), which I expect is a bit high and may need more prop pitch. Just not sure whether I should be targeting 3000 or 2800 rpm. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

There is a 70 page owner's manual for the Isuzu engines in the Documents section of this site. You need to be a supporting member to access though. If you buy a burgee or a coffee mug or something, you automatically become a supporting member and are given access.

However, I looked and it didn't have any detailed performance specs. More like weight, physical dimensions, bore/stroke, operation and basic troubleshooting stuff.

I've had some luck with boatdiesel.com. Maybe take a look and see what they have.

14 knots? I'm jealous! My 27 FC with the Lehman 4D61 could only muster 8.4 knots. Guess that's why yours is the "Sports Cruiser".

Hi...I have said chart on my boat and will be there in a day or 2..at which time, assuming I remember, I will bring home, scan and post a copy. I do remember that 2000 is the "sweet spot" for power and consumption..and it is well beyond hull speed.

I too have a Sport model with Isuzu engine. The darn engine is so noisy at 2000 (8.3 knots in calm sea with no tidal interference) that I dare not push the throttle any further, especially knowing that I'm fighting hull speed, pushing more water and gobbling more fuel.

I'm also interested to see the fuel chart from Coolchange.

I spoke too soon! Anybody know the formula to convert "Kg/Kw-hr" to "gal/hr"?

here is a link to the conversion...I am not sure this is relevant, consumption wise, for distance or time in operating conditions but the charted curve can indicate optimal consumption rpm

This may or may not be of use to you, depending on what you're looking for, but a well tuned diesel engine will consume a range between 0.380 & 0.450 lbs/hp hour - Turbocharged engines are slightly more efficient and will be on the lower end of the scale and naturally aspirated engines nearer the upper end

It can be very handy to roughly calculate how many horsepower your boat requires at a certain speed. Years ago, I used numbers similar to these to determine that my 34' sailboat needed only 9 hp from it's 27 hp engine to drive it to hull speed in calm, flat water

You do need to run a constant speed long enough to burn a carefully measured gallon or two and then do the gallon to pounds conversion to get the numbers you need
