Bonding and anodes

Post by RockAndReel »

I understand the concept of bonding, how it works, the different metals used for different conditions, etc. But I do have a question? is there a big sacrificial anode somewhere on my Albin 28? I have one on my rudder, and there are of course several in the Yanmar. I don't have one on my prop shaft (and was told by my marina that that was OK). I don't see any other anodes and wondered if that was normal.

Thanks in advance.

Here is what my 99 came with. No stern zinc. Rudder, shaft. If trim tabs were installed they should also have a mushroom zinc like the rudder. I added a large divers dream to the stern and bonded to both bonding strips next to the engine.

One other thing you may not find bonded is the swim platform - mine certainly wasn’t neither was my shaft and prop. In the urgency to get the boat in the water both got missed on a continuity test and cost me the prop and the heads of the bolts on the swim platform started getting eaten away.

Shaft and prop now bonded through the transmission with a strap direct to the busbar. Swim platform now daisy chained to each upright and bonded back to a skin fitting.

Everything now check out for continuity and not had a problem since.

2 1kg zincs on the rudder each side and 1 1kg zinc on each trim tab. One small zinc on the thruster as per manufacturers design and to finish it all off, galvanically isolated through the shore power.
