Chesapeake Bay / Pooles Island 08.22.2021

Post by BRISWISH »

Finally broke my Albin 28 in with fishing. Took my neighbor and his son out. Thought the rock fish wouldn't be biting this time of year and if they did they would be small. The first first ever to be reeled into my boat "Unleashed" was a 29" rockfish in late August - 1/2 the length of my neighbor's son.

Talk about luck. Now I'm eager to get through this work week and back out there on Saturday. Looked like the charter boats were using live eel; I was using frozen bunker. Any tips from other Chesapeake anglers? I'd love to live line, but can't find anywhere to get live bunker other than Anglers and that's pretty far from my home marina.

I'll be fishing through the fall too; have my trolling rods/rigs ready!

Nice fish and great name. My dads whaler is called unleashed as well! For live lining I’ve always been a fan of cast netting or snagging my own.

Did you find that deep hole from military shells on the southwest side? We always had luck there.

Thanks. I got her unnamed. Still need to get the name decal made. My dog is usually with me and is the star of the pier at my marina, so I thought the name was fitting. :D

I am completely down for cast netting or fishing for the bait fish. Unfortunately my friends I take out aren't as patient. I'll use your advice as fuel. A patient angler is a good angler.

I was on the northeast side. Tried the same spot this past Sunday and skunked. I'll have to check out the southwest side. Won't be fishing this coming weekend, but plan to do more in later September/October. Will transition to trolling eventually.

Thanks for the advice!

Patience is key, fresher the bait the more fish you catch. Lol.

My dad and I are vets so I totally agree. Appropriate name!
