Cummins 220 cruising speed on 40 or 43

Post by brassbrendan »

Wondering if "Owner's Guide" is accurate in its description of our trawler cruise speed upped to 12-14 when outfitted with pair Cummins 220's over Lehman 135's.

I understand our boats are displacements, etc...

I'd believe 12, but not 14 as a cruising speed. That's probably 2200 rpm on that engine. 14 max I would believe.
I looked at a Albin 40 with a single Cummins 220 and he claimed 10 as a cruising speed and 13 max. Verified by a friend I talked with years later, so he had no reason to exaggerate at that point.

Had no idea, I thought only the Palm Beach had the twins in the earlier model lineup. Thanks.

Had a 37 palm beach with TAMD 40b's. Very Lightly loaded I might get 13 knots @ 2800. Loaded to cruise it was a 10 knot boat max. I would think those figures will not show with the boat Ready to cruise.
Years ago a friend of mine bought an egg harbor inStamford, at the former albin home. Next to the egg was a 43 with a 6v92TI in it. My comment to the broker was, Man that thing must move now, yup got 14 knots burning 40 gallons/hr. They are heavy heavy boats.
