Storm Eunice hits southern England. All Albins safe!

Post by Tree »

Just shy of 126 mph recorded just after lunchtime here - it was a bit mad. It’s died off a lot now to around force 10 but wow - it really blew hard!

That’s now I believe a record for us here in the U.K. - combined with high tide at 12:34 today and it being a spring tide. 1.5 metre storm surge there has been localised flooding on the coast.

Link to my Instagram for video footage at the marina where FP2 is berthed.

You’re not kidding. Once I was able to get onto the pontoons to check boats I found a half submerged tender about 8’ long. Tried to get it to tie it off but was just out of reach of a boat hook. No doubt it’s banging against the side of mine now!

Ouch! Missed the Shipping Forecast but it probably went: "Solent very hairy; all sensible sailors in their hammocks, buckets handy."

You’re not wrong Doug. Local weather stations Bramblenet (bramble bank) and Chimet (Chichester harbour) went offline. They couldn’t handle the wind!

It’s now be confirmed the wind gust at 122mph on the needles lighthouse - unconfirmed was just under 126mph. Can you imagine that blowing up the puddle?

Suffice to say, the SW force 12 - gusting hurricane 13 at Fort Blockhouse on the ebb tide with an increase in speed since you were stationed at Dolphin due to the harbour dredging for the carriers was in excess of 8’. It made the likes of Haulover inlet look like Childs play!

Glad to hear FP2 is OK; hope others were just as lucky. That's a mighty blow.
