Questions about 28-TE

Post by Rusty »

Hello, I am new to this forum. I do not currently own a boat, but I very much like the looks of the 28-TE. I am wondering if this is a boat that is happy at low speeds for extended distances, such as is necessary on the ICW? Would also like to know what kind of fuel consumption I should expect at various speeds. Thanks for any information you can provide.

Yes, the 28TE is happy to go slow for hours and hours: Fuel flow at 1,000 are less than a gallon per hour, maybe 5 knots.

Over 5 years and 550 hours I am averaging about 3 gallons per hour.
At max cruise 3,600 RPM with a light load: About 17 knots and 10.5 GPH.

We cruise well at 1,200 RPM, which is my crude estimation of 'hull speed'.

With the Cummins 250, on the fuel curve we should be burning about 2 GPH.
