Does anyone have the original drawings or the measurements for the tank on a 1996 28te? I can probably get pretty close on measuring with the original in the boat but would be helpful if someone had it. Thanks.

Curios to what went wrong?
Installing a bigger tank, or a direct replacement?
Corrosion, crud or both?

I am always thinking of adding more tankage.

Slow leak right on the port stringer, a couple drops an hour maybe.

Probably pretty easy to add capacity now that I think about it, just extend the width further aft, probably have another six to twelve inches at least.

Here's a cross section diagram I made but does not have fore/aft dimension. Ignore the dotted line and the heights in left hand margin - that was the height of the fuel in the tank at the time as I was calibrating a sending unit.

Thanks, mine is different, went and measured tonight and my stringers aren't cut down.

Here's the tank that was in my 2000 28TE. Not much as to inspection access but atleast there was a removable plate. No better way to keep the tanks clean than to run the boat, slosh the fuel around in the tank to keep everything stirred up, a no-screen pickup tube very close to the tank bottom, a quality filtration setup and send all that clean filtered return fuel back to the tank. Probably somewhere around 35GPH with the 6LP.

You can try contacting Luther’s Welding in Bristol Rhode Island. They are almost certainly the maker of your tank and probably can assist if you are replacing.

I ended up ordering from speedy tanks (Atlantic Coastal Welding), be done in a week, I was going to go with plastic but it was $500 more and the wait was too long. I am not sure why my original failed, I don't have it out yet but I can't imagine it's crevice corrosion but possible. It's leaking on top of the port stringer so maybe.

Is it generally cheaper to replace the whole tank than to repair it locally? My take is a 1994 and much more like Boatruptcy's drawing. No access port other than where the sender / vent / pickup / return lines go in.

I don't personally want to go through the effort of removing and repairing and reinstalling, I would never trust it again. It's $1500 including shipping for new one and the first one lasted twenty years so I think it's reasonable to replace. I thought about site tube but no real good place to put it on my set up.
