Rod Storage in Dead Space

Post by Wfmdfm »

I needed to sore some rods that were going to be out of the way. I saw a post here that outlined some unused space. I thought I would make the most of it. It is solid cherry to match the other interior wood. $18 dollars at a local hard wood seller.

As a follow up after one season. Spinning rods have a larger bottom guide. I needed to enlarge the hole to accommodate them. Also rods needed to be stowed with the line out of the guides or they tend to get tangled up with each other. Not a deal breaker for me. Lastly the 7 ft rods are tough to get in and out. May need to revisit that this winter. Works great for the 6 ft and .5 ft bottom rods. I also lined the holders with adhesive green felt to save wear on the rods.

Is it much of a fight to get them in and out?

I have only tried it once. The rods against the hull you need to bend slightly but no big deal.

Very nice, and you have an eye for detail. I now have an idea for something similar in the pointy end.

How long of a rod can you put in. How far back ???
Did you cut out holes or the hole area?

So I had no issue with a 7ft rod. Thats the longest I would ever have on the boat other than a fly rod. Seem to fit in nice. . I think I will keep the shorter rods on the port side of the rack. time will tell.

Mine was not glued, had it off several times to work back there.
Good idea using the space for storage.

Mine is not glued, but it's really wedged in there, and the vinyl tends to stick to the surfaces it touches. I don't let anyone take it off but me.

Well I fabricated a new panel and upholstered it (the color is way off,) defender was closed so I couldn’t see swatches, had to guess from the online photos,
I can installed tubes inside the cavity to accept the fishing rods. Teak door from defender works well.
