Anchor roller

Hello, new to the forum. We got our Albin 28TE last summer. We’ve been doing a few upgrades over the winter. One is a new anchor winch. I got it mounted and a marine electrician wired it up for me along with some other overdue electric upgrades. My issue now is I’m wanting to install a new bow/anchor roller. I’ve been using a Bruce style claw anchor that came with the boat. Has been working well so I’d like to continue to use it for the time being. The anchor roller that’s there does not self launch the anchor. I’ve seen several that claim to be better for self launching but most are to wide to fit into the groove on top the pulpit like the one pictured. What is everyone else running and does your set up reliably self launch and return to stow easily? I’ve thought about filing in the groove entirely so there’s a nice flat surface to mount to. Thanks for the great forum, the ongoing maintenance/upgrade thread has been amazing.

I installed a new anchor roller recently: The old one was beat up and didn't spin easy, instead the chain got dragged over it, not good.

Found a new one at West Marine that was harder and a good fit.
Lubed it good with silicone grease, or white lithium grease, forgot which, now the anchor is back to being self-launching.
(Had to instal a custom made bail to make the 15kg Rocna fit.)

Wait - the rollers are supposed to roll? Of course now that I am writing this it should have been completely obvious! That explains why my "rollers" are all gouged up like yours.

My anchor launches pretty easily even with rollers that don't roll, but I'm going to look into replacing and lubricating mine now as I'm sure it would be smoother if they did roll.

I remade mine out of 316 stainless with a aluminium bronze bush.

Maintenance free!

Now just the small problem of filling the holes from the previous Good Windlass changing over to the Lewmar Profish…..
