FOLLOWING SEA

Post by jillsusan »

I LOVE MY ALBIN 28 TE--NOT EVEN A QUESTION.

BUT COMING INTO AN INLET IN A FOLLOWING SEA IS NO ISSUE WITHT HE WAVES STRAIGHT BEHIND YOU-BECAUSE SHE TRACKS REAL WELL AND RIDES THE WAVES EASILY- RPMS ARE STEADY AND CONSISTENT.
BUT HAVING TO TURN IN A DOGLEG INLET-- I HAVE TO LOWER THE SPEED TO LIKE 6-7 KNOTS TO GET HER TO ACTUALLY TURN ( I TURN THE WHEEL AND SHE DOES NOT LIKE TO TURN AT ALL SOMETMES AT A HIGHER SPEED) BUT AT LOWER SPEED WITH THE SPEED WHELL I PUT IN, SHE DOES TURN.

NOW IN THE SOUND- SAME THING FOLLOWING SEA - SHE CAN BE ALL OVER THE PLACE . AND STEERING IS HESITANT AND CHOPPY OVER CERTAIN SPEEDS.

IS IT ME OR-- THIS IS NORMAL. I HEAR THIS HAPPENS WITH ALL DOWNEASTER TYPE BOATS WITH A KEEL, BUT HAVE NOT HEARD FROM AN ALBIN OWNER AS OF YET. JUST WOULD LIKE TO HEAR SOME THOUGHTS BECAUSE THIS BOAT WILL GO THRU ANYTHING WITHOUT AN ISSUE. JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE THERE IS NO ISSUE WITH MY HYDRAULICS.

Hey JillSusan,

We've discussed steering issues here before and I have experienced difficulty turning to port at high speeds. It seems like the rudder on many Albin is TOO big. One fella here actually cut down his rudder and said things improved.

This may not be a cause for all that you experience, but it may be a start.

In a following sea, the only suggestion I have to to bring your trim tabs up (if they are down).....you don't want tabs down in a following sea as it changes the attitude pf the boat.

If I can find that thread I'll try to post the link here. If not, try a search under rudder or steering.

Cheers!

OK, here's the link to the rudder (second link actually). However, the first link below are the answers to your question back in November 2007....are you having additional problems?
