Albin 25 East to West Coast Move HELP !

Post by CaptLarry »

I found a lovely 25 Mothballed at Exeter Mass.
No trailer, no engine. so 6000 lbs ?
Been looking a decade, always miss.
I live 70 miles North of San Francisco (Bodega Bay)
I must live in a dream world.
My budget to move her is $3K.
Trucking is 2-3 times that !

All I can figure is to buy a tandem trailer,
Pay somebody coming this way $1000 for gas.
Progressive will insure it while towed, even roadside assitance tow.

Anybody got any ideas?

Another option might be to check Seattle Craigslist. There are two Albin 25's listed for sale, one in Everett, WA, 857 miles from Bodega Bay, the other in Anacortes, 906 miles away. The Anacortes boat has a low hour Yanmar engine and the Everett boat, a motor sail version, has a Perkins engine. Besides gas, it's at least 4 or 5 days' drive from Mass to Bodega Bay. From Anacortes or Everett you can do it in 2.

Post what you want to have moved on Uship.com. It's free and you may be surprised at how inexpensively you can have the boat moved. I used it to move a 36' sailboat from TX to CA, and to move my Albin 28 from VA to CA. Both times were very good experiences, and the cost was significantly lower than what I could find myself.

Just for fun I got a quote to ship the Albin 25 by Sea.
$16K to Victoria BC from Port Everglades
$13K to Ensenada.
Add trucking both ends, and I could buy a Nice Fisher 30 !
