4D61 Coolant Hose

Post by Fred Webster »

I will soon need to replace the formed hose that holds the thermostat on my Lehman 4D61, and seem to source one locally.

Does anyone know of a supplier, or a part number that I could reference through a local radiator or auto parts shop?

The quickest way to reply is via: phredweb@outlook.com

Thanks,

Had to replace the coolant hoses in 2017, and found NAPA replacements at Autozone. Here's a pic with part numbers left intact (smart move or what?).

Since then my 4D61 has received a LOT of TLC and now looks pretty good. Not as shiny as yours but very experienced and functional.

Good luck with this lovely engine. When the last cockroach dies it will be under a running 4D61.

Thanks for the reply, and I certainly will try those numbers. The local CarQuest auto parts store has been very helpful in locating other hoses, thermostats, etc.

But time to 'fess up - that was a stock photo of a 4D61. I'm afraid mine is not nearly as photogenic.

Maybe 'what'. I'm too lazy to scrape all that tape off. Speaking for myself, of course.

One thing you want to lookout for is the pipe hitting the oil filter. You can adjust your heat exchanger if you have to.

Hey Chris - what's up? Ref: the oil filter being topped by the cooling pipe, after an "incident" in Mid-Bay when the top of the filter was rubbed off by the pipe (messy and inconvenient) I found out that by bending the pipe over I could move it away from the filter enough to avoid this design flaw forever.

That's an old pic of mine; I'll put up a new one later today, with the rubbing issue solved, the new fuel filters, hoses AND a new set of SS Heat Exchanger clamps in place.

NOTE: I have a video of The Mighty Lehman in all its full-throated glory but can't upload it. Does anyone know how to do this?

Videos don't work here, in my limited understanding. One way is to post it on youtube and provide a link here.

If only to justify my previous post about providing TLC to The Mighty Lehman, here are some pix of mine after fitting the following:
1) New Racor
2) New secondary fuel filter - just a tad bigger.
3) All new USCG fuel lines
4) Coolant recovery tank
5) New coolant cap AND relief valve.
6) Electric fuel pump.
7) New SS heat exchanger clamps

Hi , old thread but here is link to an old video I did of my Lehman 4D61 start up and running up.

Question on your exhaust water feed , you and an other photo I saw , have a Tee with 2 hoses feeding the exhaust , I only have one from my heat exchanger. What are your 2 hoses connected to? Cheers Warren
