SOLD: 2000 TE 28 w/ Yanmar 300 hp 6LP-STE

Post by PilgrimPaul »

We are selling our 2000 TE 28 to make room for our new TE 31! Our “ B D Riley” has been in fresh water since 2017. She has the Yanmar 300 hp 6LP-STE power plant with 1823 hours and many new and reconditioned parts and components. We had the engine hauled and gone through by Great Lakes Diesel in Huron, Ohio in the winter of 2018-19. They installed a new turbocharger, new timing belt, new hoses, clamps and V belts. Also, reconditioned the seawater pump, starter, alternator and cleaned all coolers and painted the engine. Since then we have enjoyed about 600 hours of reliable and efficient service with many more to come. While the engine was out we cleaned and painted the engine room, removed and tuned the shaft and prop, and when it was time to reinstall, we replaced the cutlass bearing and dripless shaft seal. After the engine work we bought brand new Raymarine electronics; chart plotter, quantum radar, and sonar. New Deka 4D batteries and new canvas curtains in 2019. New Lewmar windlass in 2017. We reconditioned the hot water tank and sanitary tank and system in 2022 with all new hoses, clamps and fittings. New porthole glass and screens in 2022. We have stored her inside and dry during the winters. She has a bow thruster and aluminum radar bridge with four rod holders; an adjustable helm wheel and new helm seats 2022. New baitwell pump this year. She was painted with Awlgrip 2000 in 2016 and the hull looks fresh!

What a great list of improvements and maintenance! Your boat looks amazing. I predict it won't be on the market long.

Thanks Nancy! We hope you’re right. As much as we love Albins we’re trying to just have one at a time!

She has the Yanmar 315 hp 6LPA power plant with 1823 hours
Not the original engine?

(My 2001 had the 300 hp 6LP-STE made in Japan)
2001 28TE, 6LP-STE, 1,337 hrs, 19X18 four-blade wheel.

Hello Norseman,
Thank you for pointing out a mistake I made in the advertisement. The engine is a 6LP – STE and is rated at 300 hp. This is the original engine. The serial number of the engine is 52269. I think that according to the serial number it would appear as though this is in the range of the engines that had exhaust valve seal issues? I have a written report from a Yanmar Mechanic at a Yanmar Shop, which reports green valve seals! Thank you for bringing that detail to my attention! I will try to correct the advertisement.

As long as the seals have been changed, all good! The valve seal issue was also there on the early 6lp-stp 315 engines as well. According to my mechanic, the 300 ste and 315 stp are the same engine

Yes, same engine but rated at different temperatures and one is built in Japan, the other in the US.

Well we sold the B D Riley yesterday. We are somewhat sad to see her go but very happy that we found a good home with a nice couple and their family and the boat will stay in the Great Lakes!. So we now have another new Albin Owner in the Toledo, Ohio area. I encouraged them to join the AOG and wish them safety and success with their new TE 28!

Yes, thanks Nancy, one boat is plenty!
I want to give a shout out to the AOG and this website. This thread is where our buyer found the boat and there’s a thousand good things about that. They knew exactly what they were looking for and knew quite a bit about Albins in general. The price was right too! We had also paid a few hundred dollars for a Boat Trader ad and did get a few interested parties and a remarkable number of customers who accepted the boat as-is and wanted to send a check for the full amount after I gave them our address and “who to make the check out to”! Some were out of the country on work assignment and one was too busy to look at the boat because they “were preparing for our daughter’s wedding”! Wow, points for creativity! Anyways I’m really happy and impressed with our AOG! I think that I might give out Albin Owners Group hats for Christmas!
