Looks like that one broke the #1 rule in boating. It appears that at some point it failed to keep the water on the OUTSIDE. Looks like a high water mark in the engine compartment.

She might make a good project boat. New engine, new wireing etc. At some point somebody got tired of maintaining all the teak.

Did it sell for that, or was it just the high-bid with one sale? Interesting.

One needs to be very careful with a 'hurricane' boat. Even one that has been under for a short period can have spiraling repair bills.

This is my Evans 32 right after hurricane Fabian in 2003. The boat was actually torn off it's mooring by a tornado. No structural damage. The engine was tidal for 4 days. We had it running again 6 days after the storm. It has been fine ever since. Good old Perkins 6-354.

Repairs took $60,000 which included 100% rewire, engine removal, awlgrip hull, $5000 in cushions, new electronics. All of this for what is really a ver simple boat.

Not sure if she's a "hurricane" boat but she's clearly had water sitting in her (see the shot of the head)

Since the lines are all "flat" to the waterline I'm assuming she had a pump failure but didn't sink. But who knows.

John - did you see the seller's other items? Anyone want a gold lamee playboy thong?? Maybe a pickup truck?

I didn't have time when I made my last post, but I actually did see the Seat Turtle in person a couple of months ago (probably after seeing that listing). The boat was solid mechanically - well, the motor ran fine and it was afloat, I didn't have a mechanic look at it - but it was in need of some TLC. It was covered in bird droppings, didn't look like it had seen any wax (or a hose, for that matter) for a long time, the teak was *probably* salvageable with a ton of work, and all of the cushions/interior linings needed to be replaced. Oh, and the electronics were very out of date. All certainly manageable, but it was going to take a little work. The guy who owns it is a entrepeneur of sorts - he buys and sells boats and cars for profit (or, at least, that's the plan. Must be a tough business in this economy). Nice guy, and I know he wanted to move the boat if anyone is interested - you could probably get a good price.

Don - Congratulations! Sounds like you had a good trip. I saw your other post about speed. VeeByes and others around here are a good source of information.

Pitou - Love that pic! 8)
